Charade movie poster process

We were assigned to do a movie poster and so I chose Charade starring the fab Audrey Hepburn and the wildly handsome Cary Grant. I wanted it to be stylized but still have a retro 60's feel to it. It's the first time I've turned in an illustration assignment using illustrator.

Here is my first idea of her. I thought I would add a menacing silhouette behind her as an homage to the original poster.

So I came up with this but the silhouette isn't threatening enought and there are lots of little problems like her blending in to the shadow and the text being to bright and seperate from the image.

Here is my newer version of Charade, I want to still work on it in Photoshop, but it's what I got so far.

So I lost my sketch book and it's such a bitter loss to me, there were a bunch of pictures I wanted to scan in to post on my blog...But I bought a new sketchbook yesterday and I am working over time to catch up to where I was at before. Grrr...Just thinking about it makes me mad. Here are a couple pictures I made with my Inkbrush pen.

That cute Jane Aldridge from Sea of Shoes

When I made this image, it was supposed to be about Somali pirates but George Pratt said it looks like Life of Pi. Hahah but I don't want to change it! By the way, how agonizing is the pain of losing a sketchbook? I lost mine yesterday and it's all I can think about. Those images were so precious and dear to me and I really didn't want to lose them...

Okay...When I'm bored I revert back to drawing anime style girls. Don't hate me!
I kinda can't wait for summer and it's only been cold for a few weeks. I'm fickle.

I would love to be in San Francisco right now. Cold weather and all. I'm going to put a girl in front of these houses, wishing it were me.
