can someone teach me how to photograph paintings?

I worked another hour on my figure painting. Haha why can't I take a decent picture of my art work? Or anything!?

figure painting

This was a two day pose. The poor woman looked like she wanted to fall over the whole time.
I started this painting yesterday, so I've spent about an hour or so on it but it's going to to be a two day pose.
This is an idea I have for our Somalian pirate piece. My final piece will be much darker. It would be best to change the pirate ship to an actual tanker and make his features darker..

In my next post I'll post some of of my 30 portraits and childrens book illustration work!

School is starting this monday! I am going to scanning in some of my favorite summer sketches this upcoming week.
And lately I have been loving the illustrations in the Lemony Snicket books.

Here's an excerpt about the illustrator, Bret Helquist:

"Brett Helquist says that he was born in Ganado, Arizona, grew up in Orem, Utah, and now lives in New York City. He purportedly earned a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Brigham Young University and has been illustrating ever since."

By the way, how awesome are the ending credits from the Lemony Snicket movie? The credits were directed by Jamie Caliri and designed/animated by Axiom.

a couple things from my sketch book..

I know it's quite boring uploading old stuff that was illustration media last fall semester but until i get off my lazy butt and scan some of my personal stuff, this will serve as an update!
